How Rate My Air is written

This page explains where the information on this site comes from, how it is put together, and what it does and does not claim. It applies to every article published here.

Who writes this site

Rate My Air is written and maintained by Claudio Pisani, independently and without sponsorship from any manufacturer or brand. I am not a clinician and hold no medical qualification. You can reach me at [email protected] or on LinkedIn.

How topics are chosen

I follow feeds covering published respiratory research, public-health guidance from bodies such as the US EPA, the CDC and the European Environment Agency, and developments in relevant technology: air-quality monitors, purifiers, dehumidifiers, vacuum cleaners and wearables. A topic gets written up when it looks practically useful to someone managing their breathing or their home environment.

Sources and how articles are drafted

The research on this site is not my own work. I do not run studies and I do not conduct laboratory testing. What I do is select published material, summarise it, and cite it.

Specifically:

  • Articles are summaries and comparisons drawn from peer-reviewed papers, official public-health guidance and independent product testing published by others.
  • Drafting is assisted by AI writing tools. Every article is then edited and checked against the sources it cites before publication, and published under my name. I am responsible for what appears here.
  • Sources are listed on each article so you can go to the original. Where a paper has a DOI or PubMed record, I link it.
  • Articles are not peer reviewed, and are not reviewed by a clinician unless an article explicitly names the reviewer. No article currently carries clinical review.

Where the evidence is weak, mixed or still emerging, the article should say so rather than round it up into a firm recommendation. If you find a place where it does not, please tell me.

Equipment articles are not hands-on tests

I have not bought, tested or clinically evaluated the products discussed on this site. Equipment articles are researched comparisons based on public specifications, standards such as CADR, published guidance and independent reviewers’ measurements. Brand and model names are examples to help you compare, not endorsements.

If that ever changes for a particular product, the article will say plainly what was tested and how.

Medical disclaimer

Everything on Rate My Air is general information for education. It is not medical advice, not a diagnosis, and not a treatment recommendation for any individual. Always speak to a qualified healthcare professional about your own symptoms, medication or treatment, and follow their guidance over anything you read here.

Seek urgent medical attention for severe or sudden breathlessness, chest pain, coughing up blood, fainting or low oxygen levels. Do not delay care in order to look something up.

Breath Context is a diary application. It is not a medical device, and it does not diagnose, predict or treat anything.

Affiliate disclosure

Some articles contain affiliate links. If you buy something through one of them, Rate My Air may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate links are marked where they appear, and any article containing them carries a notice at the top.

How visiting an affiliate link affects your data is covered in the privacy policy.

Commission does not buy coverage or a favourable write-up. Products are discussed on what the public evidence supports, no manufacturer is given review approval or sight of an article before publication, and a product being unavailable as an affiliate link is not a reason to leave it out.

Corrections and updates

Articles carry a published date, and an updated date when they have been revised. Guidance and research move, so older articles may not reflect the current position; the sources listed on each article are the place to check.

If you spot an error, a misread study or a link that no longer supports the claim attached to it, I would rather know. Email [email protected] or use the feedback form. Corrections to anything factual are made directly in the article.
